2020: Fall Update

This has been quite a year. Update on learning: I'm working through CS50's Introduction to Computer Science. The lectures move quickly, and the homework is challenging. I'm learning Mandarin and French. I've taken a TRX continuing education course this year. Update on fitness: I rehabbed my shoulder successfully. I've been running 40 mile weeks consistently, but I'm taking eight weeks now to do a 5k plan (so the mileage is only 20-30 miles per week). I just finished week 7 of a TRX strength/balance program. After this program, I'll move on to building strength with heavier weights. Update on travels: In July, I managed a few days to go to the New River Gorge for some hiking, running, and swimming in the lake. I followed that up with a road trip to see a guy I like. I stopped at Ripley, Ohio, for a quick leg stretch, then I made it up to Indiana Dunes National Park (newest designated National Park in 2019). I spent the night in Valpariso before meeting my boy

Book Review: Tribe, Left of Boom, Stuff Matters

I figured I would do a quick little update on the books I've read this year. Tribe Tribe , by Sebastian Junger, was gifted to me in January. It started as an article and became a book (a very quick read at 134 pages; I read it on a Saturday morning). The book is "on homecoming and belonging." It's been a while since I've read it, and I have a terrible memory, but I remember really liking it. I had been looking forward to it since the guy I have a crush on recommended it to me a few times. I recommend it for military veterans just wanting something to read after deployment or after leaving the service. Losing the camaraderie is one of the more difficult parts entering the civilian world. One part mentioned in Tribe that seems relevant to today is how people can band over stress or discomfort. In today's pandemic, it is very obvious how people in my neighborhood are coming together to support each other. Yes, there's the panic buying of toilet paper, bu

2020: Another Update

I haven’t written a post since 2017! I was busy living (and probably Instagramming). End of 2017: Started taking art classes at the local community college. 2018: I dated a guy. He wants children. I do not. We broke up in 2019. I visited the Bahamas and enjoyed lots of Italian food with him. I also got SCUBA certified in Hawaii, visited my best friend there, and went on seven weeks of work travel. 2019: I got shingles, my dad died, and I had 10 weeks of work travel. I rehabbed my left hamstring and my right hip. I visited Japan (Okinawa), Bonaire (SCUBA trip), and Hawaii (Kauai). I tried tunnel flying (iFLY) for the first time. I stopped taking art classes. 2020! I moved into a one bedroom apartment! This is great. I can have a dog (finally), but work travel might prevent me from making that leap. I can dog-sit, though. I’m happy to have a bathroom and a kitchen all to myself. I started tracking my budget more seriously. I’m eating less meat. I stopped watching Netflix. I sta
